NBN FTTP upgrade

Take Your Internet to the Next Level with an Eligible NBN Fibre Upgrade

Although our daily routine involves using the internet both professionally, academically, and recreationally, many Australians suffer due to the lack of fast speed and stable connectivity. Traditional methods like fibre to the node (FTTN) and fibre to the curb (FTTC) are no longer viable options because they do not provide people with an opportunity to access high-speed, stable internet.

They are based on old-fashioned copper wires that enable internet to be transmitted through a certain node in FTTN and via fibre optic up to a particular point located nearby one’s house in FTTC, whereas the final link is copper again.

Conversely, the introduction of fibre to the premises (FTTP) signifies a huge step forward in the development of technology. The technology in question implies the complete replacement of old copper cables with fiber optic cables that transmit internet right into homes and offices.

The Fiber Connect project launched by NBN Co in 2021 allows upgrading more than 10 million residential buildings and businesses within Australia to get better FTTP internet access within five years, i.e., by the end of 2025. It means that the residents will have access to improved and enhanced internet connections, which cater for the needs of the current generation where technology is key in almost everything.

Am I Eligible for the NBN Fibre Upgrade to FTTP?

If your residence or your business has an FTTN or FTTC network, then there’s a possibility that you will be entitled to get a free NBN upgrade of internet speed to FTTP. The reason for this is that FTTN/FTTC networks operate using cables, whose signal strength can be hindered due to weak signals; however, FTTP networks run directly using fibres which offer high speeds.

To know whether your household is eligible for the free FTTP upgrade, you can use the eligibility checker. All you need to do is enter your address on this page.

In case your place isn’t currently eligible, it might become FTTP-eligible in late 2025 and you can register for notifications on your email address on the NBN website.

How do I qualify for my free NBN FTTP upgrade?

Checking if you qualify

First, check using online eligibility checker tool if your address qualifies for the FTTP upgrade.

Selecting an NBN 100 plan or better

After determining that your address is eligible for the upgrade, consider the selection of one of the three NBN plans, which must have speeds greater than or equal to 100Mbps, such as the NBN 100, NBN 235, or NBN 650 plan.

Waiting for the installation

Once you’ve chosen your preferred plan, the installation process will begin, and the broker will coordinate with NBN to install the required equipment at your residence while you continue with your old plan.

Install Day

On your FTTP install day, make sure you are available along with someone aged 18 years or older who can give access to the installer. The installation time will be approximately 3-4 hours for FTTN installation and may vary depending on the requirements for FTTC installations.

Upgrading to NBN fibre to the premises (FTTP)

When upgrading to NBN fibre to the premises (FTTP), an NBN technician will install NBN utility box on your premises outside the house and an NBN connection box installed inside your house. While the upgrade will not cost you anything because it falls under the commitment made by the NBN towards enhancing the digital infrastructure of Australia, consider if there will be any expenses in modifying the wires in your house and relocating the connection box, if necessary.

If you choose to have FTTN upgraded, the installation time will generally be 5 working days from the date of your booking, lasting 3 to 4 hours. But some complicated upgrades can take more time.

After your NBN FTTP connection has been upgraded, the internet speeds you have will improve significantly. Nevertheless, it would be wise to perform a test to check whether the internet is working correctly. Our team can assist you in solving any problems related to the connection, as well as in setting up your modem for the new network. Your current modem will work well; however, there may be certain upgrades necessary.

Advantages of NBN FTTP Upgrade

There are many reasons why you should choose an NBN FTTP upgrade:

Speed, Speed, Speed

Enjoy ultra-fast internet speeds as your download/uploading times will become almost instantaneous. This is perfect for streaming HD videos, gaming, and moving files around the internet.

Improved latency

As you get a connection through fibre optics, there will not be any delays when connecting to the internet. This factor plays an important role especially for real-time applications like online gaming and video conferencing.

Connection stability

An FTTP connection ensures the stability of the connection and eliminates the possibility of any interruptions. This type of connection is very important for business owners who heavily rely on cloud computing and for those whose homes are equipped with smart technology.

Ensuring your connectivity for the future

With the rising number of internet-capable devices within each household, FTTP will ensure that your internet infrastructure is capable of coping with higher traffic volumes and high-bandwidth applications long into the future. The upgrade to NBN’s FTTP isn’t simply about getting faster internet speeds but rather making sure that your internet infrastructure is capable of handling future requirements.
